you don't get what you see

When you decide to enter a fear chamber in an amusement park you know that you have to be very careful, because from this moment nothing is what it seems to be. You are concentrated and you weight every step you take. However, no matter how hard you try, in the end you get scared.
The space of ZERO Gallery, transformed into a field of sensual interference, becomes a place of similar experiences. Selected works create a constellation, where the viewers are left alone and have to face their own fears. The one straight answer will not be given. The atmosphere will push to look deeper, through the window of an empty house. People will see something more then just a night dress which is impossible to be worn or plastic bag dancing in the wind. In this situation should they still count on their self- confidence or senses?
Sorry, that is all what will be told. Too much explanation is unnecessary. There are things and phenomena that cannot be fully explained.

Participated artists: Francisco Montoya Cazarez, E. S. Mayorga, Łukasz Stokłosa and Erwina Ziomkowska.

Francisco Montoya Cazarez (1985) born in Cuernavaca, Mexico, graduated from Kunsthochschule in Braunschweig. In his artistic practice he explores dimensions of different traditional rituals and symbols, which are connected to Mexican pop culture and common problems such as violence and crime. He uses them in different context, gives a broader meaning or develops another discourses.

E. S. Mayorga (1975) born in Mexico D.F, Mexico, studied at Escuela Nacional de Pintura, Escultura y Grabado “La Esmeralda” in Mexico and Hochschule der Bildenden Künste in Braunschweig. He deals with video art and installations. In his works he explores a subject of abnormal and esoteric experiences or the ones, which cannot be explained rationally.

Łukasz Stokłosa (1986) born in Kalwaria Zebrzydowska, Poland, lives and works in Kraków. Graduated from Academy of Fine Arts in Kraków. He works with artistic media such as: painting, photography and object. In his works he deals with subjects connected to common day and common experience or gender problems. Often he uses a form of masquerade and self- creations.

Erwina Ziomkowska (1983), born in Wloclawek, Poland, works and lives in Poznan. She graduated from Academy of Fine Arts in Katowice. Ziomkowska works mostly with objects, installations and neons but lately she returned to painting. She uses every day objects, which with a help of small and easy interventions are transformed into totally new forms.

ZERO/ ENDOSYMBIOTIC

ENDOSYMBIOTIC project was invented by two independent curators- Ewa Surowiec & Paulina Olszewska. The whole idea is based on four different exhibitions which will deal with sensual influence of art works on the recipients/ participants.
The curators choose artists whom they find worth to be presenting on Berlin's scene. From October until December 2010 different artists will be confronted: both debutantes, independent and unconventional as well as those established and well-known. Project becomes a field of artistic and intellectual exchange for authors belonging to different generations, cultures and dealing with the areas of various subjects. The following exhibition will deal with aspects such as: carnality, creation of fear and uncertainty, seduction and intellectual approach which confronts the expressive and the spontaneous one.
The name of the project, ENDOSYMBIOTIC, is  related not only to the dependencies existing among presented artists and the curators. It also deals with situation in which it was found. The idea was created completely independently but at the same time it stays in symbiosis with guidelines, history and profile of ZERO gallery.
Project ENDOSYMBIOSIS will also include different meetings and workshops which correspond with the subjects of each exhibition.
There was created a special blog with all current information and photographic documentation.
